On May 8, 2025, Dr. Alfonso Chacón-Rodríguez, CFO of Rydev, participated as an IEEE-CAS Industry Distinguished Lecturer at a technical forum hosted by Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU) in Montevideo. The event was organized by the Uruguay Chapter of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS).
The session began with a lecture by Dr. Carlos Gallup-Montoro on the ACM model for MOS transistors. Following this, Dr. Chacón-Rodríguez delivered his iDLP lecture titled “Towards an IC Design Ecosystem in Latin America: What Do We Need to Open an ASIC Design House in the Region?” His presentation sparked a discussion on how to modernize undergraduate electronics engineering curricula by integrating key subjects such as microelectronics, VLSI, RTL, verification, and IC design at earlier stages of academic formation.
Dr. Gallup-Montoro also emphasized the opportunities offered by today’s regional connectivity, encouraging the sharing of specialized microelectronics courses across Latin American institutions. This collaborative approach aims to strengthen the regional talent pool and reinforce Latin America’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.
According to event organizers, approximately 30 participants attended in person, with an additional 100 joining via Google Meet.
On the following day, May 9, Dr. Chacón-Rodríguez held strategic meetings with Dr. Alfredo Arnaud and colleagues from UCU’s Department of Electronics Engineering (DIE-UCU). During these discussions, Rydev and Tecnológico de Costa Rica formalized a collaborative agreement to support several microelectronics design and development initiatives backed by Uruguay’s National Research and Innovation Agency (ANII).
At Rydev, we are committed to advancing microelectronics innovation in Latin America through regional partnerships, academic collaboration, and knowledge-sharing platforms that build capacity and drive long-term impact.
